Swing Club’s image gets revamped!

August 25, 2007 at 7:17 pm (Uncategorized) ()

Ok, so my roomies and I are now the swing club e-board. We want to make club awesome– for new people, and for those who have been in club before. First, we needed snazzy new fliers to attract the freshmen. Likewise, we got a sharp looking new site to match. Wondering who’s dancing in our logo? Why, it’s Carl and Caroline from Montreal! We wanted a good swingout pose, so we went through our pictures, and Steve found this one he took at S&V this last year. Steve played around with the image a bit in photoshop, and I think he did a great job at it too. I’m very pleased at the new site layout. Ultimately, we want to also post old pictures from club’s days past, so if you have any, feel free to send them along. I’ve already salvaged what I could from webarchive.org. As for club itself, we’ve got I think a pretty good plan of attack on how to get people started off, because well, that’s really what swing cub is for. Getting people interested, and giving them a good starting off point. Hopefully, after a while, people like it enough to seek real classes from real instructors. I think we learned a thing or two after our first year attempting to teach, but we are by no means ready to do this thing seriously.

Back in NYC

August 23, 2007 at 7:06 pm (Uncategorized)

I’m home for a few days. Woo? Yeah. I’m home for doctor’s appointments and getting my car checked. Hopefully I’ll at least get to hang out with Jenn sometime while I’m home. The drive home kind of sucked. Once I got into the city I hit awful traffic. I was basically “parked” on the Deegan for about an hour, just in sight of my exit ramp. Took me seven or eight hours to get home instead of the usual six. Now I’m home, and I’m quite bored. Busy day tomorrow though.

Ubuntu!

It’s all installed, and happily working. Now I’m just trying to customize GNOME to my liking… for instance, I don’t like the double bar, and I don’t like that everything just looks so large. Sad I suppose that I mess with the visual stuff first, but well, it’s the part of things that irk me first. So they must be tackled first.

The Adventure Continues…

August 21, 2007 at 5:18 pm (Uncategorized)

Windows is installed. But three drivers are not. Result: no sound, and no internet. Can’t find them. Nothing is working. I hate Windows right now. Why won’t it play nice? I love my Mac.

Yay! Steve fixed it.

My Linux Adventure

August 21, 2007 at 5:28 am (Uncategorized) (, )

Yeah, I’m installing Linux on my Windows machine tonight. I finally got sick windows silliness. It got mad at me last week and I haven’t even used it! And particularly since I don’t use that machine much anymore, and primarily use my lovely macbook, I figured it was high time I learned something new. My friend RB has been good enough to walk me through the process, making sure I don’t kill my computer in general and am then left with nothing. It’s been interesting to say the least. Mainly… I’m trying to implement some changes it doesn’t want to make… and the whole thing is “getting uppity” with me, as RB said. Well, it’ll work somehow.

Well, partitioning now successful… installing windows again… formatting drive… “bye bye old windows crap, I won’t miss you.” This might take a while.

Well, issues came about… but my handy dandy tech support fella helped me through it. Windows is re-installed – a new slate. Tomorrow: Linux installation.

Thanks RB for your help tonight, and thanks Brooks for fixing whatever was making it angry. :-)

Hello world!

August 21, 2007 at 12:16 am (Uncategorized)

Yes, I decided to leave the default post title wordpress set up. I found it amusing. The first program most people learn to write is called “hello world”, so why not have the first post be called just that? Yeah, that’s the connection I made. I’m a dork.

So this is my new blog, lets see how it goes.
